Although my public speaking experience extends back into my time running Tumbleweed Entertainment on the east coast of Canada, I’ve only recently branched out from simply being involved in panels to presenting my own discussions.
Starting in 2013 with the Vida Vegan Con in Portland, Oregon, I oversaw a workshop to discuss the intersection of veganism with a number of other forms of oppression, and it was met with great appreciation by those in attendance.
Ryan managed to make the difficult task of managing an intimate discussion of chatty vegans look easy. And it wasn’t easy. – Insufferable Vegan
Overall, it was a really excellent session and I hope that the next VVC will feature more of these roundtable-style discussions where everyone can get involved. I know I keep saying this, but this session needed to be longer! – Bonzai Aphrodite
Using a similar format, I also hosted a workshop during the Toronto Veg Food Festival that same year. As one of the biggest festivals of its kind in North America, it was great to present to a packed room with so many other things happening that day.
Thanks to these positive experiences, I plan to continue speaking at festivals and conferences on a variety of topics, and am already planning my next trip.
